Jodhpur, the blue city. Famous as well for the Mehrangarh Fort (an amazing fortress 122 meter above the city), the clock tower built by the british in the market square and the Omelette man whom has been featured in the Lonley Planet since the 70´s and has been in the same spot for the past 40 years, 7 days per week cooking delicious omelettes in the street. I had the spanish masala omelette, mmmmm....

Jodhpur, la ciudad azul. Famosa también gracias al Fuerte de Mehrangarh (una maravilla de fortaleza  situada en una montaña 122 metros de altura sobre la ciudad), la torre del reloj (una mini réplica del Big Ben construida por los británicos en la Plaza del Mercado) y el Omelete Man, un señor muy carísmático que saltó a la fama cuando en los años 70 apareció en la Lonley Planet, lleva 40 años trabajando en el mismo sitio 7 días a la semana haciendo unas tortillas exquisitas, yo tomé la spanish masala omelet, riquísima!


El día que llegamos lo pasamos recorriendo las callejuelas de la ciudad antigua que son un laberinto lleno de tiendas de saaris, pulseras y mucho caos...Por la noche cenamos en Indique un restaurante con una terraza de lujo con una vista de lujo sobre el fuerte...impresionante

Al día siguiente visitamos el fuerte. Un sitio maravilloso que evoca leyendas y una historia compleja, lejana y desconocida hasta ese momento para mí. Hay relatos escalofriantes en cada esquina: A la entrada nos contaron que un hombre se ofreció a enterrarse vivo en los cimientos del castillo para augurar buena suerte...También escuchamos el relato de las 15 viudas del marajá que fueron incineradas vivas con él en su pira funeraria tal y como mandaba la tradición, eso se llama Sati, y fue a mediados del siglo XIX...

Esta es la entrada, desde aquí se recorren las salas, los aposentos, los patios...todo decorado de forma sublime, es un sitio muy impresionante. Apesar de ser el 4 fuerte que visitábamos en una semana de viaje, no nos cansábamos de contemplar tantas maravillas...aunque cuesta asimilar tanto en tan poco tiempo!

The Mehrangarh Fort is an amazing place full of History and Art. It was our 4th fort to visit in one week, but we were not tired of seeing so many wonders...Although it was quite diffucult to assimilate so many amazing things, facts and thoughts in shuch a short time!

The thing that I first loved about Jodhpur was the way women dressed and to see so many of them all together buying their saaris and scarfs in the streets. Jodhpur is world known for the tie dye techniques that they apply to the colorful scarfs that are ALL OVER the city...

IMG_3769Las mujeres de Jodhpur con su coloridas vestimentas me cautivaron nada más llegar. La ciudad es mundialmente conocida por las técnicas de tintado y tie dye que aplican en los saaris y pañuelos con los que se visten. La zona antigua (que es inmensa) es un bullicioso mercado adornado con colores, gentes, comida, tuctucs, flores, animales...y sobre todo, telas y hermosas mujeres luciéndolas.
